Stealing Bird Seed

Canon EOS T1i using a  EF-S 75-255mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.
This little guy and a few of his gray accomplices have been stealing our bird seed!!  Oh well.

100 Posts for the year, not too bad.

For the Birds

Canon EOS T1i using a  EF-S 75-255mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.
Pulled out the zoom lens again.  Still working on my bird photography but these aren't too bad.

On another note, this blog will continue into the new year.  Stats for this year are 99 posts and little over 1500 views.  Not too bad.  Thanks everybody for the support.

Watching the sunrise

Thought I would try something different.  It's amazing how fast the world moves sometimes.

Fear not.  I will still be posting pictures but will probably try and sneak a video here and there.

Sun Rises over Snow

Canon EOS T1i using a  EF 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.

It's a pain to drive in, it makes the roads messy but it sure is pretty when you wake up to fresh snow coating everything.  It's only the beginning and it's not even winter yet.

It's a Small World

Canon EOS T1i using a  EF 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.

The New York Botanical Gardens Holiday Train Show is truly a masterpiece.  All of the buildings and landmarks are made from twigs, leaves and bark to create a display throughout the observatory showroom.  I have seen it twice and would love to see it again.  If you're in New York, around thanksgiving and Christmas, it's worth checking it out.

Flowers in the Snow

Canon EOS T1i using a  EF 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.

Under the snow somewhere there are signs of life.  Sometimes they come with some color too.  Found this while shoveling 8 inches of wet heavy snow.

A shot at the Stars up North

Canon EOS T1i using a  EF 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.

It's cold and dark up here in the north but it sure is pretty sometimes.  Clear nights lead to cold temperatures.  Looking forward to some some to go with the stars.

A Rising Star

Canon EOS T1i using a  EF 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.

Morning Reflections

Canon EOS T1i using a  EF 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.

Some days when the weather is nice you can catch a nice reflection.  The cold is settling in and soon enough Joe's Pond will freeze over.  November is a hard month for outdoor photography as the colors are fairly muted.

Your Mail is Un-Deliverable

Canon EOS T1i using a  EF 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.

I am not exactly sure what is wrong with this picture.  Apparently your mailbox needs to be somewhere near the curb or your mail won't be delivered.  And not long ago my mailbox was in the correct spot.  Oh well, at least the road is paved and I have since moved my mailbox after not receiving mail for 3 days.

Heady-Topper

Canon EOS T1i using a  EF 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.

Don't all show up at my door expecting to drink any of this but I was recently made aware that the favorite brew pub is now canning one of it's beers.  The pub has been closed since the flooding earlier this fall but the cannery is open and 4 packs are available.  Heady-Topper is a Double IPA that boasts "so drinkable, it's scary".  I would have to agree.  Stay thirsty my friends and support the Alchemist when you're in Waterbury, VT.

So yes I am a week late posting but it's here!  SNOW!  These are the first snowflakes of the 2011-2012 Montpelier snow season.  It is also fitting that I got a new set of snow tires today.

Tulip Drop

Canon G11
The exposure was taken at 6.1mm, f2.8 for 1/100th of a second.
Post Processing done in Adobe Lightroom.
So I took this picture a while back on the Canon G11, probably one of the coolest point and shoot cameras I've ever owned and a great backup camera to my T1i.  I thought I would try something different today and post just one color in this picture.  I will probably post this in full color as well.
Pictures have been lacking the past few days but it's dark when I leave for work and it's dark when I get home so I am going to need to work on some other subjects other than outside for a little while.  I may dig things out of my stock of pictures to add to this collection.

The exposure was taken at 28mm, f3.5 for 30 seconds.

This is my second attempt at photographing the Stars.  It's starting to get colder outside but I promise I will be trying this again.  I've learned a few things since I did this in early September.

On a clear Vermont night, the moon can almost substitute for the sun.   But then again if you leave the shutter open long enough, even the darkest night turns bright.

A Short Break

So as you probably noticed, there haven't been any new pictures here.  Life is currently a little busy so the Blog is getting a little R&R.  There may be intermittent posts but probably not full time for a little while.  Thanks for your support.  More pictures to come in good time.

PS for those of you who follow me daily, I have posted three pictures.  I went to bed early last night and didn't post before that.  The third picture covers tomorrow as I will be out of town as well.
(And all these pictures deserved a spot on the blog)

I did make it to the beach this evening and it was beautiful.  It also appears that the humidity broke or I am just getting used to it.  I got back to my hotel just in time to capture this one.  Right place, right time.  This is one of the only open spaces in this complex where you can see something other than large office buildings..

So yes I am down south where it is a bit warmer and very humid.  Although this subject is somewhat limited, the sun set a lot faster than I anticipated and there wasn't much to work with here.  I will work to get a better one for tomorrow.  After a long day of travel, I am headed to bed.

Flowers seem to always catch the light beautifully.  It is starting to feel like summer in Vermont. A wonderful contrast to the winter months.  If the weather for today could return on August 20th, I will be one very happy guy.

Things to do while sitting in Traffic

The exposure was taken at 28mm, f14 for 1/20th of a second handheld.

So there aren't a ton of things to do while sitting in traffic but taking a self portrait wasn't a bad one per say.  Wish I could have gotten the woman behind me who looked like she was hanging out at a concert, not sitting in her car sitting in traffic.
